Zap Architects open an 80s-themed terrace

This month potentially the coolest new alfresco drinking terrace has opened in East London.

Designed by the self-proclaimed ‘fun-architects,’ ZAP Architecture, PITCH is a unique open air cinema, drinking terrace and street food venue located in Stratford, a stone’s throw away from the Olympic Park.

With décor that gives a nod to the 80s, Pitch has a laid back vibe. Guests can enjoy a craft beer in one of the retro pyramid booths before flopping onto a bean bag in front of the outdoor cinema screen beneath the stars.

Pol Gallagher, owner of Zap Architecture said:

“Pitch is a feel-good, outdoor venue with a nod to the past. There’s a celebration of retro styling, with 80s party booths and bright colours throughout the venue - as well as our favourite old films playing in the cinema space - but more than anything this has been a project led entirely by design.”

The culmination of this design is an outdoor playground for grown-ups. A custom designed triangular ‘garden arch’ welcomes guests into the venue. Inside wall art, bright party booths and benches under a sweeping canopy create a festival vibe. Even the toilets are groovy with each cubicle sporting a different vibrant design.

This festival ambience is further enhanced by the street food stalls offering a range of cuisines. Stalls include Piadina Project, Kalimera, Gyoza Guys and Ticos Hotdogs.

Gallagher said: “Stratford has undergone an incredible transformation since the London Olympics, and there are thousands of locals living in the area who commute to, and party in, central London every day.

“We felt it was about time we gave the locals the entertainment they deserve in their area, while also giving ‘visitors’ a reason to come and experience Stratford for themselves.” He said.
