Garagenatelier Car Park (Herdern, Switzerland)

Created by Swiss practice Peter Kunz Architektur, Garagenatelier Car Park is an exclusive car park nestled in the mountains of Herdern, Switzerland. Five concrete cubes have been embedded into the surrounding landscape, partially revealing the underground car park, and there is only enough space within the car park for eight vehicles!

A driveway leads car park users down the hillside, where a sliding glass panel allows entry into the car park from one of the end units. Within the surface of the glass, artist Oliver Kühn has created inscriptions that show the relationship between automobiles and man. Natural daylight enters the space through the five large windows, brightening the dark cave-like space. Visitors leave the car park via a stairway that leads to the structure’s roof and level of the road.
