Carlo Ratti Associati unveils plans for the Paris Navigating Gym Project, making the city's urban fantasies a true reality. The human-powered boat responds to local demand for a more sustainably sound infrastructure.

The collaboration is an effort to recycle human energy when working out. The floating gym was proposed by carlo ratti associati alongside fitness company, technogym, architecture company, terreform ONE  and the urban regeneration institute URBEM.

Carlo Ratti expalins to DesignBoom: 'The Paris navigating gym investigates the potential of harnessing human power, it’s fascinating to see how the energy generated by a workout at the gym can actually help to propel a boat. it provides one with a tangible experience of what lies behind the often abstract notion of  electric power’.

While working out, members of the gym will be able to keep track of their progress through real-time data displayed in front of them along a panoramic glass facade via an augmented reality screen.

The 20-metre long ‘fitness vessel’ can hold up to 45 gym-goers and features state-of-the-art ARTIS fitness equipment provided by Technogym. The equipment tracks the energy produced helping to power the vessel forward while electric propellers allow the boat to cruise by itself, allowing it to be enjoyed intermittently without breaking a sweat.

The floating gym channels the idea of Parisian’s love for walking, caputuring the essence of ‘strolling’ on water. One for the River Thames?
