Roundabouts are common road features that are given perfunctory appreciation. They’re utilised to moderate and monitor traffic, and are so ubiquitous to motorists and pedestrians alike, that their design potential can at times go unnoticed. However, these circular thoroughfares can instill a variety of emotional reactions, from gut-wrenching anxiety in a fledgling driver, to awe at the major monuments that sit upon them. They’re also environmentally beneficial, elevating even the dourest from boring breaks in traffic, to valuable tools that reduce carbon emissions, and limit city council electrical and maintenance fees.
