Studio Saxe combines jungle, yoga and design in Costa Rican hotel
Costa Rican architects Studio Saxe have completed an, oh so Zen, hotel and yoga studio in the beautiful tropical climes of Nosara, Costa Rica.
Costa Rican architects Studio Saxe have completed an, oh so Zen, hotel and yoga studio in the beautiful tropical climes of Nosara, Costa Rica.
Studio Saxe is a sustainably minded practice which strives to blend contemporary design with the natural environment. Hotel Nalu- Nosara is no exception, Studio Saxe has used local craftsmanship and the surrounding environment to frame the architecture of the hotel.
Nosara is well known around the world for its great surfing and has become a hot spot for health and wellness fanatics. The owners of Hotel Nalu-Nosara wanted to reflect the culture of the town with this project. To do this, they incorporated a yoga studio into the build which is popular amongst locals and often used as a multi-purpose gym space. Surrounded by the lush vegetation of the jungle on all sides, you would be hard pushed to find a more relaxing environment to practice yoga in.
After a chilled yoga session, guests can retreat to their individual Pavilion ‘homes’ as opposed to rooms. These little living spaces are located just minutes from the ocean.
The architects have scattered the homes amongst the trees, breaking up the traditional monolithic layout associated with traditional hotels.The trees create a sense of exclusion from the rest of the world and create the ultimate get away.
Each of the pavilions has been built taking into account the wind and sun patterns in the area and offer unique views of the landscape.
The roof of each home is made of recycled timber and Teak planks which sweep out further than the properties to provide shade from the hot Costa Rican sun. Studio Sax’s use of recycled materials means that no two roofs are the same and highlights the tension between local craftsmanship and contemporary design.
