Spacesmith, Davis Brody Bond design pop-up pool in Brooklyn Bridge Park

American design firms Davis Brody Bond and Spacesmith have collaborated to design a pop-up swimming pool at the Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York.

Measuring 50-foot by 30-foot and and 3.5 feet deep, the pool has been raised to avoid unnecessary excavation. A beach of 2,500 square feet of sand adds a fun environment to contrast with the city background.

The primary-coloured space features a sandy beach dotted with yellow and blue umbrellas, a deck, food and drink concessions and picnic tables. Various repurposed shipping containers in red, yellow and blue colous have also been incorporated which provides storage space as well as offer space for additional facilities like showers and restrooms.

The pop-pool is a temporary structure which will remain for only five years. The project has used as little additional construction as possible, re-utilising the concrete foundations left from previously demolished buildings. Only 60 people can use the pool at a time.
