British design company, Robert Welch has claimed the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, the UK’s highest accolade for business success.

The award is in recognition of the unique integrated sharpening and storage capabilities incorporated into its Signature Knife Block Set, which has contributed greatly to the company’s growth.

The Signature Knife Block Set comes complete with an integrated ceramic wheel knife sharpener and includes a magnetic locater to allow the knife to slot in damage-free.

Last year also saw the family-run business receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, after increasing its year-on-year overseas sales by 29% in the previous five years.

Design Director, Paul deBretton Gordon said,  ‘As a brand we had been predominantly known for our cutlery products, so developing a knife storage solution together with integrated sharpening options, presented a substantial challenge to the business.

‘Equally, we recognised a significant gap in the market versus traditional wooden knife blocks. This is what the Innovation Award really stands for. It underscores the whole DNA of the company and just how much care is taken in designing and developing products that are not just aesthetically appealing, but can also provide greatly improved functionality.’

The company is thrilled to be part of such an honourable group of Queen’s Award winners for the second year running and anticipates their sales for the signature collection to continue to grow.
