Redevelopment starts on 11411 Georgia Avenue property in Wheaton

Redevelopment work has started on 11411 Georgia Avenue, an office property in Wheaton, Maryland to transform it into an apartment building, designed by US-based architectural firm Bonstra Haresign.

The redevelopment project will add seven storeys to the 11411 Georgia Avenue, an existing five-storey office building in Wheaton.

The addition will create a 12-storey apartment tower consisting of 194 residences with a mix of studio-, one- and two-bedroom units designed to appeal to young urban professionals.

The redevelopment capitalises on the recent adoption of the Downtown Wheaton

Sector Plan that provides for greater density near the Metro station.

The building is located adjacent to the Wheaton Metro Stop, providing easy access on the Red Line to the Washington, DC Central Business District and neighbouring Silver Spring, Maryland. The building is also in proximity to the Westfield Wheaton Shopping Center.

Whiting Turner is the contractor for the redevelopment project.

Construction on the office redevelopment project began in mid-June 2013 and will complete in 2014.

With Wheaton market emerging as a pedestrian-friendly Metro-served environment with access to transportation, retail and the workplace, the redevelopment is expected to bring additional amenities and vitality to the area.
