Quinta do Lago’s restaurant reveals new nautical interiors

Casa do Lago, Quinta do Lago’s sophisticated lakeside seafood restaurant, reveals its new interiors after a £1.25million renovation

Nestled in the heart of the Algarve’s Ria Formosa nature reserve, Quinta do Lago is a unique Mediterranean resort that offers guests privacy, security, and the chance to enjoy Portugal’s glorious southern coast. Recently, the resort has announced the completion of a renovation to its lakeside seafood restaurant, Casa do Lago.

After the £1.25million renovation, the restaurant now emulates the lake’s aquamarine waters, complementing the surroundings with a sophisticated nautical feel. Behind the design was local studio Essencia Architects; the team sought to preserve the spirit of the original restaurant, while also creating an elegant, relaxed atmosphere.

Casa do Lago is able to accommodate large numbers of diners for both lunch and dinner, thanks to its mixture of internal space (600 sqm) and large outdoor terraces (700 sqm). It was important that the restaurant continued to blend with the natural environment that surrounds it, which is why Essencia Architects have added additional exotic plants and foliage to the collection of pre-existing palm trees. These plants also act as natural barriers to divide areas of the restaurant and frame the terraces.

Wooden decking runs through the venue, and the main entrance has been improved with the widening of the doorway; the restaurant’s internal bar has also been moved closer to the entrance to create a natural flow between the bar and the hallway. The new location for the bar also invites guests to relax and wait in comfort for their table to become ready, and provides stunning views of the lake.

Within the smaller dining room, Essencia Architects have added long mirrors on the ceiling to create a heightened sense of space, and dressed the space with simple, stylish furniture and artefacts. Meanwhile, the main dining room features new wooden panelling that evokes the clean, nautical feel; palm fish, especially hand-woven by local craftswomen, hang from the ceiling to complement the theme. The venue is also home to two large fish tanks and seafood display units.

Part of the renovation included expanding the restaurant’s outdoor areas. In order to do this, Essencia Architects removed the swimming pool that was previously on the terrace, replacing it with two smaller water features, which cascade into each other and mirror the Algarvian sun. Casa do Lago also boasts a new garden extension and an outdoor bar, which is ideal for light meals and drinks, with the seating area covered by a pergola.

“We are delighted to reveal Casa do Lago’s brand new look from this most recent refurbishment. We have been using this unexpected quiet period throughout Covid-19 to upgrade parts of our resort which were due a bit of modernisation and invest in particular areas to enhance guest experience,” CEO of Quinta do Lago, Sean Moriarty, says.

“At Quinta do Lago, we pride ourselves in offering the very  best  in  hospitality  and  this  renovation  will  raise  the  bar  even  higher,” Moriarty continues. “Casa  do  Lago  is  ideally situated  centrally,  right  by the water’s edge and its new design evokes a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere; we cannot wait for our guests and residents to experience it.’
