Who:

James Plant

James Plant and James Moss founded Plant & Moss in 2009 after graduating from Buckinghamshire New University. Now managed solely by Plant (shown right), its first client was Liberty - spotting its work at Tom Dixon's The Dock exhibition - with other high-end retailers such as Selfridges and Anthropologie following suit. The studio spent the following months putting its first collection together, and moved into the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham in 2011. That same year, Plant & Moss debuted its collection at the Tramshed and 2013 found itself part of the Emerging Brands section of 100% Design. Gaining exposure at trade events such as 100% Design, is a priority in 2014.

Why:

As well as lighting, Plant & Moss's range of accessories is another string to its design bow. The Geometrics series take simple, familiar forms and explores new products with contrasting materials and finishes. It includes candle holders, desk tidies and colourful coat hooks in yellows, pinks and blues. 'It's the first time we've done accessories and I'm really pleased with how they've been received,' says James Plant. 'We want to create designs that become a family's heirlooms that they will love, cherish and pass down through the generations.'

What:

Polka Lamps

Polka Lamps

So-called because of their colourful domes, these LED lamps bring a pop of colour to desks and tables, and with the twist of a butterfly nut the lamp is equally at home vertically uplighting a wall. The series is also available in brushed brass and a black finish, with a walnut base.

A set of three candleholders produced in either walnut, concrete or polished whitecrete stone finish, are made using simple forms and feature a brass candle cup.

Akita Desk tidy range

Designed by Tatsuya Akita for Plant & Moss, the range uses contrasting material such as concrete against more luxuriousfeeling polished brass, copper and oak. Plant & Moss describes the range as 'an industrial aesthetic with class.'
