The Kit Miles Studio was founded in 2012 by the said Kit Miles shortly after he graduated from the RCA, and specialises in the design of contract fabrics and wallpapers featuring a dynamic use of colour and geographic imagery.

Kit Miles, director of Kit Miles Studio, graduated from the RCA in 2011 after studying printed textile design.

His trademark dynamic use of colour and geographic imagery was picked up during his graduate exhibition where he made his first sale.

'From that point I was invited to collaborate with a manufacturer of contract fabrics, exhibiting at the Sleep exhibition, and everything really went from there', he says, with his work focussing on the contract sector.

Cylinders takes its inspiration from commemorative architecture of the late-20th century, featuring interlinking, swirling, and ‘broken concrete’ shapes. It comes in velvets and is also available in a natural linen version.

Why
Miles established his company in 2012.

'I always wanted to run my own business and never imagined being in any other situation at this point in my life,' he says, with his business ambition passed on by his father and grandfather who ran their own successful businesses.

Fretwork KMS was invited by interior design studio Michaelis Boyd to design a wallpaper for the ‘unique culture and exclusive surroundings’ of London’s Groucho Club. Says Miles: ‘The refurbishment has been eagerly anticipated and we’re thrilled to have done the entrance ...in a never-before-seen colourway of our wallpaper Fretwork

Today, he is focussing his business on wholesale expansion in Europe and Asia. 'There is also the potential for us to get a meaningful grip on the hotel and contract sector,' adds Miles. He is also testing out the consumer market with Liberty now becoming a stockist for the studio's products.
