New faces and places in Southbank Place

Walk around London and you can’t fail to notice the pace at which luxury residential developments are going up. One area that’s being developed into what should be a thriving community is the area around the Shell building and Waterloo, now called Southbank Place.

For those desiring a central London life, they probably shouldn’t miss out on the chance to put a deposit on a flat in Southbank Place. Eight modern blocks are being built in this £1bn development of the 5.25 acre site, five of which are residential; the development also includes restaurants, public open spaces and shops. Due to be completed at the end of 2019, this promises to be one very swinging place to live.

Assuming they can afford it, that is, because with one-bed apartments from £750,000, two-bed from £1.2m, and three-bed penthouses from £3.6, in the building 30 Casson Square (it has 164 apartments in total), this is very much a luxury development, albeit not stratospherically so.

The apartments have been designed to exacting standards by interior architect practice Johnson Naylor. Partner Fiona Naylor says the practice’s aim was to achieve the most from the space, allowing for plenty of integrated storage, bespoke kitchens and bathrooms.

Show flats have been built in the former GLC building, so purchasers can see exactly what they’re buying. The apartments feature wet-room bathrooms with Portuguese marble, and engineered hardwood floors throughout.

So while the resident isn’t moving into a blank canvas, the fundamentals are done very well: there are lovely floors, substantial hardwood doors, a luxury bathroom and a kitchen with all mod cons.
