Make Architects showcases recyclable cinema at Ecobuild

International architecture practice Make Architects designed a unique, recyclable, cinema that showcased at this year’s Ecobuild exhibition, in London.

Built entirely from reclaimed cardboard, the igloo-shaped structure comprised 1,271 pieces of modulated hexagonal shapes, which could then be dismantled after the event for recycling. In keeping with Ecobuild's recycling theme, the efficiently designed cinema was furnished with chairs constructed out of recycled transport pallets and other reclaimed materials.

Peter Greaves, Make partner and lead project architect, said: 'We hoped the curved geometry of the cinema, combined with the creative use of recycled materials, encouraged curiosity while providing a striking and exciting visual impact within the exhibition space. The simple design allowed the structure to be easily constructed and deconstructed before and after exhibition.'

The cinema attracted quite a crowd at the event; and Make also was named runner-up in the UK Green Building Council's most sustainable stand award (up to 100 sq m).
