Is this the world’s most beautiful bike?
Italian car designer Pininfarina has created a bike with all the panache of a 1930s Italian automobile
Since the Thirties, Italian engineering and design company Pininfarina has created some of the world's most desirable cars for the likes of Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and MaseratiI. Now, it has turned its considerable experience and expertise to the design of what must be one of the world's most stylish bikes.
Designed with bicycle maker 43 Milano, the Pininfarina Fuoriserie is inspired by the iconic tailor-made cars of the Thirties and brings together ultra-fine craftsmanship, high-quality materials and cutting-edge technology.
The frame is made of tubes of chromed steel hand-welded by skilled artisans and finished with a walnut briar-root coating that's redolent of the wood veneer panelling inside some of the world's most luxurious cars.
The handlebars are dressed with interlaced leather similar to that in the interior of the classic Lancia Astura Bocca, an iconic car designed by Pininfarina in 1936.
While its looks may be classic, however, the Pininfarina Fuoriserie is anything but old fashioned. Among other modern features, it has a Bike+ boosted system, which optimises the cyclist's energy through a miniaturised electric engine, allowing the rider to cover longer distances and to replace other means of transportation.
The LED lighting system is based on a brand-new high performance lamp and it has a system to recharge the mobile phones through its dynamo.
The uniqueness of the bike is enhanced by custom-made bags created by Italian leather specialist The Bridge, and by the Pininfarina logo, which is engraved on the brake knobs.
Perhaps adding to its allure, the Pininfarina Fuoriserie will be produced in a limited edition of 30 units, referencing the Thirties, in which Pininfarina was founded, and the years which gave life to outstanding cars as the Lancia Astura Bocca.
