IKEA Responds to Balenciaga's Design on Blue Tote

Check out its doppelganger.

Balenciaga's new Arena Extra-Large Shopper Tote Bag is alarmingly similar to the Swedish retailers classic blue tote and albeit flattered by the retailers doppelganger, IKEA couldn't help to have a little fun with it too.

Following the fashion brand's take on 40p IKEA Frakta bag, the Swedish giant created a guide for people to differentiate between the two.

IKEA's advertising agency Acne debuted four ways customers can tell their fake from their Frakta. Among the ways to spot the fake is to 'shake the bag, if it rustles it's the the real deal' and to 'throw it in the dirt', a true Frakta can be rinsed off with a garden hose.

One of the main differences between the two is the price tag. While an original Frakta will set you back 40 pence, Balenciaga's new tote will set you back a painful £1,705.

The Frakta tote was originally design by Marianne and Knut Hagberg and later redesigned by Danish brand Hay who also introduced the new yellow bag last year.

'We are extremely flattered to seemingly be an inspiration for the latest catwalk designs for Balenciaga,' said Stella Monteiro, sales leader for IKEA UK and Ireland.

'Our IKEA Frakta tote is one of our most iconic products which are already owned and loved by millions – now the many people truly can get the designer look for less.'
