Hotel Milano Scala, Milan

Hailed as the first emission-free hotel in Milan, the Hotel Milano Scala lies behind a historic facade in the centre of the city. Thermal insulation was integrated into the structure during renovations, and heating and air conditioning is provided by an environmentally friendly water-to-water heat pump.

An automated energy consumption control system checks the temperature in each room and is deactivated via a magnetic contact as soon as a window is opened. Filters on the water taps in the rooms reduce water consumption, and guests are encouraged to use public transport while out and about.

The hotel also saves energy in the kitchen: all ingredients are sourced as regionally as possible to minimise transport distances. Herbs, and some fruits and vegetables, even grow on the hotel’s own roof terrace. Induction hotplates and convection ovens also contribute to maintaining the energy balance.

Zulal Wellness Resort, Qatar

Qatari Developers Msheireb Properties has created the Zulal Wellness Resort, which is set to be Qatar’s biggest wellness destination as well as the region’s first resort to offer a new interpretation of Traditional Arabic Islamic medicine (TAIM). A wellness escape located in Khasooma at the northern tip of Qatar’s coastal line – and an hour from capital city Doha – the site spans over 5ha of land. Zulal comprises more than 180 rooms and suites with private terraces and views of the Arabian gulf. Facilities include health and wellness centres, fitness pavilions, outdoor pools and a variety of restaurants.

While locally rooted, the resort aims to combine regional traditions with contemporary wellness techniques, which are delivered by international wellness experts, including Chiva-Som.

 

The location offers a water therapy suite

The Zulal Wellness Resort offers two separate venues for health and wellbeing: Zulal Serenity, which is dedicated to guests aged 18 and above, and Zulal Discovery, which welcomes families with children of all ages to enjoy family-bonding activities and engage in edutainment programmes.
