History meets contemporary with CitizenM’s new flagship Tower Hill hotel
11 July is an exciting day in the hotel world in London: The grand opening of the new CitizenM hotel, located in the heart of one of London’s most renowned historical sites, opposite the Tower of London and based right on top of the city’s busiest tube station, Tower Hill.
With 370 rooms available, each room offers guests an extremely cosy and modern space all coming with a very big (and comfy) Super King bed. The hotel makes the most of its incredible location by fitting the eight-storey property with a dramatic double height space, floor to ceiling windows and a wraparound terrace that provides guests with breathtaking 360 degree views of London and its famed skyline.
The young Dutch company, founded in 2008, is proud to open its second London-based hotel and happy to be breaking the rules of traditional hospitality with its belief in offering an outstanding experience and advanced thinking, treating every guest equally and seeking to give the guest what they truly want; contemporary design, technology, friendly, efficient service and most importantly for a very reasonable price (rooms start at £109 per night).
Designed by the much admired Amsterdam-based creatives of Concrete, the property’s façade blends in with its delicate surroundings where its light and airy glass and limestone composition mirrors the hotel’s neighbouring buildings.
Upon entry to the hotel, it is difficult to overlook the change in atmosphere. Whilst traditional hotels may incorporate a large desk with open space complimented with gigantic palms, instead sofas, books and works of art making it feel like a home away from home. The unique design is for guests to feel like they don’t have to be stuck alone in their hotel room. The ground floor allows guests to relax after a long day exploring or working in London where they can rest, work, get together by the big fireplace, make friends, watch TV or enjoy a drink with delicious food. The hotel design is largely aimed at convenience with self-check-in terminals to allow easy check in, completed in seconds.
Located on the top two floors is SocietyM, the hotel’s very popular business meeting rooms that are both creative and extremely functional, with whiteboards, blackboards and fast Wi-Fi, all the while evoking a 1950s design ethos. The hotel is suitable for visitors of London, whether it is for business or traveling, as it is the perfect location to access the city of London as well as Central.
