Gas station design – the world’s 10 best filling stations for 2016
#8 United Oil Gas Station
Location: LA, USA
Architect: Kanner Architect
Completed: 2009
Located in Los Angeles's Mid-City neighbourhood, United Oil gas station seeks a balance between the modern day one-stop shopping attitude and the city's historic love affair with automobiles, according to the architect.
The design is easily recognised with its two sweeping forms that give the rest stop a fluid and eye-catching structure. A concrete ramp takes visitors up, over the mini-store and down behind to a car wash, while a second metal form flows over the mini-store in a 30ft canopy to create a connection to the 12 gas pumps.
The rest stop was completed in 2009 by Kanner Architect, a now closed practice, and covers 630.8sq m.
