Ever wanted a designer home electric car charge point? You’re in luck - they do exist

UK based innovators, Andersen, celebrate the online launch of their first designer home electric charge points

As the founders of Andersen, entrepreneurs David Simpson, Mandy Simpson and Jérôme Faissat have crafted their own luxury version of residential electric vehicle charge points. The brand was created in response to the growth of the Electric car and hybrid vehicle market, after the founders realised there were no ‘elegant’ home charge-points on the market; their first product, the A1 charge point, was launched this week.

“We identified the potential growth in the electric car market,” Jérôme Faissat, Commercial Director of Andersen says, “and immediately felt that the actual charge points themselves needed to work better in the context of their surroundings. So, we started a list of what we really wanted from a home charge point and it ended up being quite simple. It had to look discreet, be safe and robust and a pleasure to use.”

Discreet and super-slim, the luxury charging point was created in collaboration with award winning Paul Crofts Studio and was inspired by Scandinavian, minimalist design. Compatible with all electric and hybrid cars, the A1 is made of aluminium, stainless steel and modified timber Accoya wood. To achieve their aim of storing and concealing all 4.7 metres of cable and plug, Andersen even developed their own cable which fits neatly inside the A1.

The creation of the A1 follows the shift in consumer demand to electric driving – after all, the UK Government 2017 budget recognised the potential in electric vehicles by investing £400 million in electric charging point infrastructures. With over 122,000 plug-in cars on UK roads, there is tremendous opportunity for Andersen and the A1 to make a difference in the market. However, having your own A1 will set you back at least a hefty £999.

“Our aim is to create a landscape where home car charging is desirable, by developing and designing discreet and stylish charge points that fit in with any aesthetic,” Faissat continues, discussing the future of electric cars. “Using your charge point shouldn’t just be functional and a means to an end – it should make you feel good.”
