Dutch Design Week: The Future Today


The much anticipated Dutch Design Week, taking place in Eindhoven 18 - 26 October, is promising a view of the world tomorrow in the making today, through exhbitions, workshops, seminars and parties.

During the latest edition of DDW, its 13th, smart solutions and inventive design will be offering up new and promising perspectives as the doors to the future open up in a city that buzzes with inspiration and creative energy for the event's full nine days. DDW is inviting all professionals to visit the festival of design later this month, promising it as the place to see the latest developments in their line of work and opportunities to meet with design colleagues from all over the world.

A huge range of new concepts, remarkable young talent as well as established names will be presented during DDW, which is expecting some 2,200 participants, some 400 events across 78 locations, and 250,000 visitors.

Themes at events at venues in and around Eindhoven include 3D printing, design thinking, interaction design, sustainability, social enterprise and future concepts. Main venues are the Klokgebouw (Stripj-S), the Design Academy Eindhoven and the Faculty of Industrial Design at the Eindhoven University of Technology.

Amid a huge programme watch out in particular for Algaemy, an exploration of the creative potential of microalgae from Studio Blond & Bieber, using an analogue textile printer that produces its own fast-growing pigment, and the Age of Wonderland exhibition, workshop and final project overview, with six international artists from Africa, Asia and South America and 20 Netherlands' organisations collaborating on a range of social innovation topics, such as hacking, cultural genetics and music.
