CGCC to open Bridget Hall designed by will bruder+PARTNERS in Arizona

Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) will unveil Bridget Hall on the college's Williams Campus in Arizona, US on 23 February 2011, which has been designed by will bruder+PARTNERS around the idea of ‘Village of Buildings’.

The $7.05 million building has been designed to include Learning Commons, Student Activities, and Multipurpose spaces in addition to associated offices and support spaces. The facility is built by Sundt Construction Inc.

According to will bruder+PARTNERS, the 18,000 square feet Bridget Hall has been conceived around the idea of a ‘Village of Buildings’. The design supports the function, autonomy, and legibility of the separate, fairly disparate, functions of the programme. The project is designed in such a way as to add a feeling of three buildings, rather than one, to the emerging Williams Campus. The ‘village’ constitutes a Student Lounge ‘town square’ bordered by the Learning Commons pavilion to the west and the Multi-Function pavilion to the east. The building encloses the corner of Bluford Hall, with the multi-function pavilion aligning with the geometry of the newly completed Engel Hall to the northeast and the Learning Commons pavilion aligning with the geometry of the original campus and Bluford Hall.

The new building at Chandler-Gilbert Community College's Williams Campus will offer a much-needed ‘heart’ to the school, says, chief operations officer John Schroeder. He also added that one of the unique characters of the new building is that it is not just a collection of rectangular or square rooms, but a facility that flows on a curving plane with rooms joining almost flawlessly.

Bridget Hall is named for Maj. Bernard A. Bridget, the project officer for the construction of what was initially known as Higley Field. Bridget Hall is aiming to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits in all major categories, including sustainable sites, water efficiency, and optimizing energy. The project is expected to earn at least LEED- Silver rating.

Chandler–Gilbert Community College is a community college in the Maricopa County Community College District.
