Richard Sennett is professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics, university professor of the Humanities at New York University and senior fellow at Columbia University Center for Capitalism and Society. He is one of the world’s leading voices on cities, culture and labour, having published key works including: The Fall of Man; Together: The Rituals, Pleasures, and Politics of Cooperation; Flesh and Stone: The Body and the City in Western Civilization; The Conscience of the Eye; and The Culture of the New Capitalism. Sennett is currently writing Building and Dwelling, a book about open systems and urban design.
Sennett is the founding director of the New York Institute for the Humanities, the chair of Theatrum Mundi — an international network of artists, critics and scholars exploring urban culture — and a distinguished visiting scholar in the Department of Sociology at Cambridge University.
He has won an array of prizes for his work, including the Hegel Prize, the Gerda Henkel Prize, the European Essay Prize, the Spinoza Prize and the Hemingway Prize.
