TFL has named 2014 'The Year of the Bus,' and accordingly the designs, which range from colourful typography to collage and illustration, each reference bus travel.

Crispin Finn

One by London based duo Crispin Finn features the words 'ding ding', echoing the sound of the of the Routemaster conductor pulling the cord to alert the driver to move on, while the holder designed by NomaBar features a stylised 'double-take' image that scans simultaneously as one of London's new Thomas Heatherwick-designed Routemaster busses and a commuter lying down after a hard day or a few drinks.

Bar says: 'When I received the brief and read that it's theme was celebrating the Year of the Bus, two things immediately sprang to mind, late bus and night bus....unlike the day bus where people sit or stand, the night bus has its own rules, my design is dedicated to the horizontal commuters who can lie down on the bus after a long day's work or night out.'

Edward Carvalho-Monaghan

Recent graduate and up-and-coming illustrator Edward Carvalho-Monaghan has created a tableau of figures, each of which representing a cultural destination, as well as the colour of the bus line on which to find it. The astronaut represents the Science Museum, the military gentleman represents the Imperial War Museum, and the mummy represents the British Museum.

Malika Favre

French-born London based illustrator Malika Favre has captured a truly icon London site, a single red bus crossing Tower Bridge.
This year TfL, the London Transport Museum and London bus operators are celebrating the Year of the Bus to promote the role that London buses, bus drivers and the staff who support them play in keeping the capital moving and to mark a number of important anniversaries. These include 60 years since the creation of the original and iconic Routemaster, 75 years since the launch of its predecessor the RT-type bus and 100 years since hundreds of London buses were sent to the Western Front to play a crucial role during the First World War.
