1 Undershaft, London’s tallest skyscraper gets the green light

London welcomes the Shard's new rival... 'The Trellis'

Fear post-Brexit isn’t stopping the city of London from adding to its skyline. The City of London Planning and Transport Committee has approved plans to add a new skyscraper to the capital.

The 1,016 feet high tower, 1 Undershaft, will be built between two well-known skyscrapers, the Cheesegrater and the Gherkin.

The building, also known as, ‘The Trellis’, will be the tallest in the financial district and second to Renzo Piano’s Shard, the tallest building in Western Europe. It will have about 970,000 square feet of office space across 73 floors, as well as, a restaurant, education centre, museum and viewing gallery on the top floor.

The tower was designed by Eric Parry and commissioned by Singapore-based Aroland Holdings Limited as part of the firm’s plan to build a portfolio of impressive skyscrapers across the globe.

The existing tower, primarily leased by Aviva will be demolished to make way for ‘The Trellis’ taking about 18 months to knock down with an estimated three to four years to build.
