This year is particularly exciting as we are celebrating 20 years in business.

Over the next few months leading up to our birthday in June 2021, we'll be taking a look back at some of our past designs and projects. A lot has changed over two decades, so we'll be showcasing some of the defining moments in our journey so far. We hope you enjoy our trip down memory lane!

mrfdesign at 100% Design 2002 

Back in 2001, Steve Maher and Steve Reynolds set-up the company just as they both turned 40 with many years of experience working in the UK contract furniture industry. In 2002 we booked our first exhibition stand at 100% Design in London and some of the furniture in the archive photograph above is still available today.

The jay-jay collection comprises a subtly contoured upholstered armchair and 2-seater sofa, sitting on slender chrome or EPC steel legs. A versatile range with a wide range of applications from hotel bedroom to office reception.

Elevate is an upholstered soft seating range featuring a distinctive cantilever arm design, supported by an inset rectangular steel frame. This robust design is available with matching armchair, modular bench units and ottomans. From the outset, the company utilised a team of local subcontractors to make our furniture, but by 2009 Steve Ellitts had joined the company and we set up an upholstery manufacturing unit in Willenhall, West Midlands. The “Three Steves” then embarked on growing the business, moving to a larger unit in 2012 and the story continues…
