Gareth Gardner joins the children in the new Ann Riches Healing Space

Young patients at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, get energetic with an interactive game at the newly completed Ann Riches Healing Space. It is one of two new spaces for youngsters - the other is an outdoor 'sky garden' - offering healing environments away from conventional hospital wards. Created by designer Morag Myerscough and architecture practice Cottrell and Vermeulen, the design incorporates some Alice in Wonderland magic with its oversized chair, TV and lamp, not to mention Twoo the wise owl. The project was the result of an RIBA competition.
