Designed by BAF Graphics, this window display for London department store Selfridges taps into the mood of patriotism and celebration that is sweeping the UK this summer. Reflecting the party atmosphere surrounding the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the upcoming 2012 Olympics, BAF Graphics has decorated the windows of the famous Oxford Street store with explosions of red, white and blue.

Each window portrays a traditional London scene, but look closer and you'll see that the campaign, entitled Big British Bang, offers a more contemporary - perhaps even subversive - take on typical London iconography. In one display, a mannequin dressed as a royal guard stands beside a denim jacket-clad punk sporting a bright red mohawk. A corgi looks on from the side and heart-shaped balloons float to the ceiling. In another tableau, a stylised telephone booth towers over the Gherkin as paper pigeons in top hats surround the scene.

This is not the first time BAF Graphics has worked with Selfridges. The London-based company also designed a Christmas window display for the department store, as well as graphics for a shoe gallery launch and a marine conservation campaign. However, Selfridges representatives describe the Big British Bang campaign as one of their most popular.

The elaborate graphics will remain in Selfridges' windows until the end of summer and are sure to draw crowds into the department store. But looking at the displays from a non-commercial standpoint, the scenes also serve as an appropriate introduction to London 2012 for tourists and visitors.
